In the GKK Canada Association there are 10 levels or grades of rank before the Black Belt Rank. These levels before a Black Belt level are referred to as a "Kyu" (which can translate into basic "grade" or "rank"). Each level exemplifies a student's designation and is represented by a number and a colour of belt.
